Channel 5's Fifth Gear programme recently chose the new Fabia vRS in an attempt to break seven national Speed records. Presenter Jonny Smith used the Fabia vRS' standard 7-speed, twin-clutch gearbox and its 0-62mph time of just 7.3 seconds to break records for time taken to cover 5km, 5 miles, 10km, 10 miles, 50km, 50 miles and 100km in its class at Millbrook Proving Ground's high speed bowl in September.
The Fabias state-of-the-art direct injection, supercharged and turbocharged engine produces 180bhp from just 1.4-litres with a top speed of 139mph, which was ideal for smashing the MSA Class F British speed record for 1,100 to 1,500 cc petrol engined cars.
The Skoda Fabia vRS broke the records which have stood for over 20 years, while Jonny Smith described it as “a car I could trust with my life”, thanks to its standard six airbags, ESP (including ABS, MSR and ASR) and strong safety shell. Despite its outstanding performance, the Fabia vRS achieves an equally astonishing 45.6mpg combined.
