Skoda Yeti
The Skoda Yeti has been winning fans all over the world since it was introduced at the Geneva Motor Show back in 2009. This five seater SUV is a versatile model that reached a high point when it was put in fourth place on the European Car of the Year award`s 2010 website and that recognition has boosted sales ever since.
The Yeti is a 5 door, four wheel drive vehicle that falls into the mini SUV class. Production began back in May 2009 and one of the key selling points is the fact that it is available in so many variations.
With regards to the engine size, models start with a 1.2 litre version, while at the other end of the scale, a 2 litre injection model is available. The engine sizes in between are listed at 1.4 and 1.8 and all of these variants are available as petrol versions, while a TDI model is introduced at the 2.0 litre stage.
Original production of the Yeti began at Skoda HQ in Kvasiny in the Czech Republic and was later syndicated to Eurocar in the Ukraine and Azia Avto in Kazakhstan. However, from 2013, it has been announced that production of the Yeti will begin in China and will be carried out by Shanghai-VW.
As far as safety is concerned, the Skoda Yeti has been awarded a five star rating by the European New Car Assessment Programme. In front and side crash tests, the car scored 92% adult occupant protection and 78% for the child occupant test. In the pedestrian safety assessment, it scored 46%.
The Yeti is fitted with Anti-Lock brakes and Hydraulic Brake Assist while it also comes with Electronic Differential Lock as standard on most models. There are also seat belt reminders and the Yeti can be ordered from new with up to eleven air bags fitted.
With such a wide choice of models, you would expect a very wide range when it comes to miles per gallon ratings but overall, the Yeti is very economical for a car of its class. The basic 1.2 TSI variant, has been shown to produce an overall mpg of 37.2 in tests while the highest rating 2.0 TDI version, registers an impressive 45.2 mpg by virtue of its diesel engine.
In between, the 1.8 petrol versions of the Yeti have been shown to produce 35.4 mpg and the 1.4 models come in at around 27.2 mpg on average.
When it comes to the price of a new Yeti, you can expect to pay a list figure of £14,995 for the entry level 1.2 TSI version and costs then ascend to the 2.0 TDI which is available at £21,995 for the Elegance variant.
With the car having only been in production for a couple of years, there is a small, but growing market for second hand versions of the Yeti. Skoda announced in June 2011 that they had produced their 100,000th model and with more Yetis on the road, second hand sales are set to rocket. The best way to monitor this is to check the news and Netcars.com blogs for all the latest updates on new and used versions of the Yeti.
